Sewing, Socializing & Spinning

I go through spurts.

Spurts of
baking, blogging, book reading
dabbling, drawing, dyeing
sewing, socializing, spinning

This week I conquered the three S's
[ess's?]

sewing:
EZ Dipes
Made a stack of newborn fitted diapers with the EZdipe pattern. Tried production line style sewing and it worked out really well. Cut one day, Sew the next, Turn and Topstitch the next. Now they just need snaps!
socializing:
bang-o bongo
I had my first zoo experience this week with my sister-in-laws and their kids. Caught these two little animals banging on the bongos!
spinning:
Yarn of my dreams
"Yarn of my Dreams" Take III - 200 yards of worsted to bulky 2ply, alpaca, merino, shetland, latte silk, banana silk, & tencel neps. Soon to be an Oslo Anorak sweater for my little one.

A Diaper A Day...

keeps the poop contained?

I've decided;
wool covers will have snaps
fitted diapers will not

My partner is excited about prefolds and diaper pins,
he's the best!

Also, I've re-fallen in love with my sewing machine,
watch out!

Frump : Flattery

Pinned! Taking it off without poking myself is always the tricky part.
Sleeves shortened, form fitting, done! I even left extra fabric in the seams around my belly so I can take it out a bit as I grow. But it's a stretchy knit sweater, so I doubt I'll need to.
I've been mighty friendly with my sewing machine lately.

DIY: Dipes

I am officially crazed
diaper crazed
of the cloth variety

DIY Dipes

Patterns used, left to right; Rita's Rump Pocket, Babyville, Prefold2Fitted
DIY Dipes

The dipe with the owls has a hidden layer of fleece to keep the outer fabric dry. It shouldn't need a cover, in theory. This one turned out so teensy!

I'm testing out different templates and techniques to figure out what I like best... which is really hard without an actual tiny human to check the fit. How big will this little girl be?

Next step: figuring out a closure system that works for me...
Snaps? Hook & Loop? Pins? Snappi?

004/365 barter

my Seattle-friend knit me this rad little neckerchief in exchange for the welly warmers I made for her (tutorial found here)! I was going to add some accents with handspun yarn, but now I don't know. I like the simplicity. and the comfortability! my neck was comfortably warm all day and I totally forgot I was wearing it. actually, I'm still wearing it, along with two long sleeve shirts, a vest, and a blanket. my apartment is damn cold.

Hooded Scarf

Stuff to do today:
Stop being sick.
Take somewhat decent pictures for my etsy shop
make some muffins
knit
finish spinning this lovely green roving I just dyed

Did I mention stop being sick?
I'm already on Week 5 of my 52 Week project. I figured since I failed at the 365 Project, I would start over with something less... needy. haha.

I made a few scoodies to put up in my shop. They're super cute and comfy! I used some cute thermal fabric and gray fleece.

And now I think it's time to stop procrastinating. I'm off to list stuff on etsy!
