Halloween, a bit late.

hey there! I feel like I'm always running 29 days late...

I was a last-minute-axis-deer for halloween, so I threw on a dress I made a few years ago, painted my face (didn't have brown! so I mixed green/red and used eyeshadow to help blend. the eyeshadow made it all sort of gloppy, so I wouldn't recommend it), and crafted up some antlers.
note, holding a felting needle in your mouth is never a particularly good idea!

I needle felted the basic shape with raw merino wool (teeny tiny lanolin-filled locks! would definitely use processed wool if I did this again), wet felted a bit, then more felting with the needle to reinforce thin spots. they weren't as sturdy as I thought they'd be, so I jammed some heavy wire into them and now they're pose-able!

the antlers were very shoddily sewn onto a thick headband. I may tidy it up at some point.

yeah, antlers go with every outfit. ;-)

Painting Stones with Wool

I'm vending at the Kite Day event at my college in... a week and a half - ah! as I was thinking of more kid-oriented felty things to offer, I stumbled upon the idea of felting stones (I remember someone did this for the international day of felt) . I searched the interwebs for other rock-felters, and came up nearly empty. is this something other people will find neat? am I just nuts? (well, don't answer that...) would you wear a keychain / ring / bracelet / necklace made of a felted river rock?

this one had a rock in it at one point, but it was before I figured out the best way to make a peek-hole. now it's home to a few buttons and a jingly bell.

my mum! how cute is she?! I want to tell the world how amazing she is, but I couldn't possibly put it into words. (I would need many o'blog posts for that). she's the strongest woman I've ever met. she's kind and generous way beyond her means. she's thrifty, resourceful, and full of creativity. and I love her.
